Expo 2010 Shanghai China – Asia Square (45 photos)

I guess, some of you heard about Expo 2010 Shanghai China. I watched the brief news about this event in BBC about a month ago. The video featured Spain Pavilion, and it was amazing.
And after one month, I had a chance to travel to Shanghai. I just came back to Dubai this afternoon from Shanghai.
As soon as I reached the hotel I found out the information about the expo, and the next morning I, after 4 hours of sleep I went to explore.

***
The hotel provided one-way shuttle bus to the expo at 09:00 in the morning. It took us about 25-30 minutes drive until we reached one of the metro stations close by the expo.
*
From that point it took me about 15 minutes walk until the Gate N5 entrance.
*
As you can see, the whole area was divided into 3 areas. The biggest one was Asia Square. Of course, it should be. Asia is the biggest continent in the world :)
It was about 9:45 in the morning. The streets were full of people, mostly Chinese, heading towards the expo.
*
When I reached the Gate 5, guys were redirecting people to other side of the entrance. I acted like a typical “smart-a**” tourist, pointing at the paper that hotel gave me, and kept on repeating “Is this the Gate 5?”, “I need to enter from here”. After about a minute they gave up, and let me in the shortest way. I think it was VIP pass. I managed to jump this long queue: :D
*
I passed the security screening, and went into the expo. The first pavilion was for UAE :)
*
Well, this one is Morocco. I don’t know how it became part of Asia. But, anyways, it was there.

*
It was a really hot day. About 40 degrees Celsius. No wonder all the Chinese people were carrying umbrellas. Some of the areas had this kind of cooling humidifiers.
*
This building is for Saudi Arabia. Quite interesting design. Really wanted to go in and see. But when I saw the amount of people in queue, I changed my mind.
*
South Korea also had nice stuff. Pretty impressive.
*
*
… and finally I found UZBEKISTAN! :D
I will post separate material about Uzbekistan later. I went inside this pavilion to see what my country was showing to visitors.
Right next to Uzbekistan, was our another neighbor – Kazakhstan. I couldn’t find Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. Somewhere I saw Mongolia, Tajikistan and two more countries. They were all under one building.
*
North Korea
*
Lebanon
*
Iran
*
I forgot to tell about the ticket. I bought the ticket at the hotel. It cost me 160 Yuan. Its better to buy it there, in order to avoid staying in the queue to buy a ticket here.
*
The entire expo area was massive. So, to help people go around, they had these small passenger vans. I don’t know how to call them :)
*
*
Hmm… The expo had the flying saucer – UFO landed in the field :D
*
*
It was massive and giant! I decided to go inside this building.
*
But it wasn’t that easy. Queue was very long. This is just the beginning for me, and almost the end for these guys on the photo. I was heading the opposite side, about 3 times longer than this queue to the other side, and back.
*
There wasn’t much interesting inside. Couple of restaurants, cinemas, shops and arena. I went up to the observation deck, which is middle point of “two saucers”. View from the deck:

*
China – the biggest and tallest one in the expo. I didn’t even bother to go to see it, considering the fact that it was Friday, and it was packed with people.
*
Steam Fountains
*
This building had Information desk, souvenir shop and toilets.
*
*
By this time, I was sweating, dehydrating and feeling hungry. I wanted to buy a cold bottle of water, but they didn’t have it. Apparently, cold drinks are sold out, and the replacements weren’t getting enough time to get chilled.

Expo 2010 Shanghai China – inside the Uzbekistan

As promised earlier, I am posting the material about Uzbekistan pavilion in Expo 2010 Shanghai China. Here in this post you will be able to see what is inside the Uzbekistan.
I actually got lucky with this one. Because, there was a long queue, and they weren’t letting anybody in. I think they let in people at certain times. So, the time that I joined the line was the time they started to let people in. I managed to get in within 5 minutes.

*
It was a bit tough to take photos inside, as people were blocking everything. Whatever I want to take, there’s always someone’s head, or hand, or leg, or something else in the pic. So, pardon me for that.

These are the projected Uzbek houses. I tried to take better, but the glass was not giving me any chance to make that.

As you exit the building, you can see national stuff on sale, mostly for women. I saw lots of Chinese trying them on and buying at least 2-3 items. I hope they weren’t made in China :D

Expo 2010 Shanghai China – Europe Square (44 photos)

Time to show what’s in the Europe Square of the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
Europe Square had lots of amazing buildings and structures as well. Some of them far beyond imaginations. You will see what I mean, when you go through the photos.
So, by the time I reached the Europe Square, my feet were already in pain. It was just too much walk for one day!
*
*
The first one was Portugal.
*
Belarus
*
Czech Republic
*
Slovakia
*
Bosnia & Herzegovinia
*
Hungary
*
Some of the countries were represented under one roof. I guess, its either because of less funding or maybe these countries joined the club later, and there was no space available.
Malta, Republic of San Marino & Cyprus.
*
on the other side of the same building, there were Macedonia, Albania & Azerbaijan.
*
Norway
*
Ukraine had pretty colorful, attractive pavilion.
*
Turkey
*
Ireland
*
Greece
*
Sweden
*
Denmark – it was something like a bicycle track.

Italy
*
UK
*
Netherlands had a wonderful pavilion! Happy Street!
*
Romania
